At 5:45 PM EDT, on April 2, 2020, John Hopkins CSSE released the following Coronavirus numbers for the United States:
Confirmed Cases: 238,820
Deaths: 5758
This is only day number 71 of the Coronavirus pandemic in the US and US cases are more than DOUBLE what the world cases were on day 71. The first reported case of Coronavirus in the United States was on January 23, 2020. On the other hand, the first reported case of unknown pneumonia cases in China were first reported on December 31, 2019. So what happened 71 days later on March 10, 2020 in China:
Confirmed Cases: 80,924
Deaths: 3,140
71 days later the Global numbers were:
Confirmed Cases: 118,319 (includes 696 US cases)
Deaths: 4,292 (includes 25 US deaths)
We all should know the reason (s) WHY* the United States has more than double the Coronavirus cases, but the question remains, What are you personally going to do about it? Doing nothing is not an option.
Many Southern states started off with fewer cases than Northern states, but they are rapidly catching up as they ignore keep your distance rules.
Some Evangelical churches continue to hold services, helping to spread the virus. Roman Catholic churches on the other hand are closed. No where is it written that you have to be in a church setting to practice your faith.
Many thousands will die, unnecessarily, if we do not ALL do our part to contain the virus, and that means following the rules and encouraging others to do the same.
In a crisis in the past, the United States has been a leader. This time it is bringing up the rear and our children’s, grandchildren’s and every other living persons life in this country is now in the hands of an administration that cannot seem to get their ducks in a row, no matter how hard they try.
*Brookings Institution released a report on March 31, 2020 listing the government timeline in responding to this crisis. It’s a short read that’s very informative.
