The second in a series of reports from WHO on Ebola

Note:  Total of probable, confirmed and suspected cases in West Africa was 3,685 as of August 31, 2014 with 1,841 deaths.

Affected countries:  Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria, Senegal and Sierra Leone

Folks who have had the Ebola virus and survived have antibodies in their blood.  The World Health Organization has approved transferring antibodies from a survivor to a patient suffering from the disease.   A 1995 study indicates 7 of 8 patients survived after receiving the blood therapy.

Many aid workers have contracted Ebola and more than likely will be the first patients treated with this therapy.
