Is the Scooter going to be out on bail while his sentence is being appealed? If that is the case, it’s a done deal — he’ll never serve a day. But Judge Reggie Walton doesn’t appear to see it that way. If he denies bail during the appeal, what then? Either Bush has to pardon him on the spot, or the Scooter goes to jail. Bush has already said that he didn’t want to get involved during the appeal process.
So, what is Bush going to do if the judge denies the Scooter bail?
This is going to be kind of fun to watch. If Libby were going to be out on bail during the appeal period, it’s a piece of cake. Just before Bush leaves he issues a pardon to Libby. No harm — no foul. But if the judge slaps him in jail, it’s a long way to the end of next year. The $250,000 fine is no big thing. Somebody will come up with the money to pay the fine. But that still leaves 18 months in the slammer. Is Libby going to do that much time without saying anything?BTW, Judge Walton was appointed by none other than George W. Bush.
