My thought for the day – August 16, 2015
Senator Chuck Schumer (D-NY) posted a press release on August 6, 2015 on his website on the proposed Iranian agreement.
Normally I have a great deal of respect for Senator Schumer, but when it comes to the Iran agreement Senator Schumer’s thoughts appear to be unduly influenced by the Israel factor which is understandable, since Senator Schumer is Jewish. Whether we want to be or not, the majority of us are biased in some way or another.
Unfortunately too often in politics we are swayed by ‘what appears to be’, rather than ‘what is’. While Senator Schumer’s press release concentrates on ‘what appears to be’, Fareed Zakaria’s opinion deals primarily with ‘what is’.
Fareed Zakaria published an Open Letter to Senator Schumer in the Washington Post, and CNN’s website on August 14, 2015. Fareed is CNN’s foreign affairs show host as well as being a Washington Post columnist, a contributor to The Atlantic and a New York Times best selling author.
Why should Fareed’s opinion matter to you? If you take the time to read his bio you’ll note he can probably be considered the U.S. foremost authority on foreign affairs, AND he’s not running for office 🙂
If you have doubts about the Iran Agreement, take the time to read both Senator Schumer’s opinion and Fareed Zakaria’s opinion, and then form your own opinion after reading the actual Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action published on July 14, 2015.
Apparently many of those that have formed an opinion on the agreement haven’t bothered to read it.
