Supreme Court Justice Anthony Scalia was recently invited to speak before the Tea Party Caucus [January 24, 2011] by Representative Michele Bachmann (R-MN 6th). The meeting was closed to the media, but open to Members of Congress. Representative Jan Schakowsky (D-IL 9th) was one of the attendees and made the following statements about the meeting:
“Rep. Jan Schakowsky (D-Ill.) said Scalia outlined his basic judicial philosophy, which she said he described as opposing the idea of a "living Constitution." He told lawmakers to try to amend the Constitution rather than enact laws that push for a new interpretation.” Source – LA Times Article "suggested that we all get a hard copy of the Federalist Papers and read them and underline them and dog-ear them."
